Stillwater Business Park finally lands first client

The Redding City Council made history Tuesday when they approved the city’s first sale at the Redding Stillwater Business Park.

Lassen Canyon Nursery, a Redding based strawberry plant, will be the first business to enter the park, following a nearly $1 million deal. The plant will be the first business to set up shop in the business park, despite the fact that it has been open for development since 2010.

Economic Development Liaison Patrick Keener says the 678-acre business park first opened when the North State hit rock-bottom during the economic recession.

Since then, there has been no activity, until last night's city council meeting, when councilmembers unanimously approved 16 acres for Lassen Canyon Nursery to expand. City officials are hoping the deal sparks more development.

Nursery co-owner Kenny Elwood says he's happy to be the one spearheading the building project.

There have been reports that a second business is interested in buying property at the park, but the name of that company has not been released.
