Still no plea in Rose Avenue homicide

As the investigation into the murder of 55-year-old Cass Jean Edison of Chico, the man suspected of killer her has yet to enter a plea after two court appearances.

Defendant Christopher Swihart Sr. appeared in Butte County Superior Court Thursday for just a few minutes. Swihart's arraignment was continued to next week to give his lawyers more time to prepare a plea.

The 49-year-old Swihart is being held on suspicion of murdering Edison, whose body was found outside a home on Rose Avenue in west Chico in the early morning hours of March 16.

Authorities say Edison, who had worked as a freelance reporter and owner of the now-defunct North Valley Business News, was strangled to death.
