SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Toy guns, BB guns, pellet guns and airsoft guns would have to be manufactured to look clearly different from those that fire bullets under a bill approved by the state Senate.

Lawmakers approved the Imitation Firearm Safety Act on a party-line, 22-8 vote Tuesday, although several senators from each party did not vote. It now goes to the Assembly.

SB199 advanced in the wake of the fatal shooting in October of 13-year-old Andy Lopez in Santa Rosa, when a sheriff's deputy mistook the boy's airsoft rifle for a real AK-47. The bill's authors cited a similar shooting four years ago in Los Angeles.

Several Republicans objected that the bill could endanger police officers because some real guns are now manufactured in different colors and are partly marketed toward children.

Airguns are not toys and should not be treated like toys! Watch this video of a .45 caliber Air Rifle punching a hole through a concrete block! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlxcFSq5k8c Please call your law makers and say your opposition to this bill, could you imagine if people start thinking all airguns are toys and some kid gets shot with a highpowered air rifle because somebody told him it's just a toy? This bill is bad news!
