FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - State officials say they anticipate providing just 20 percent of the water requested by district serving 25 million Californians and one million acres of farmland.

The California Department of Water Resources announcement Monday is a 5 percent increase from its previous estimate made in January. It' still the second lowest estimate announced since 1991. California is entering its fourth year of drought.

State reservoirs are at higher levels than a year ago because of careful management and storms in December and February. The department also says additional water sent through canals and reservoirs will help offset the drought's hardship.

Federal water officials say that some Central California farmers can expect to receive no irrigation water.
