The Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park will debut a month-long Quilt Show with an Opening Night reception on Friday, October 24th from 6 to 8 p.m.
It's part of the 150th Anniversary celebration of California State Parks. The show features 57 creatively designed art quilts that will remain on display until November 21st.
The quilts were designed by members of the Quilters' Sew-Ciety of Redding, Inc. after a challenge was issued to design a quilt depicting one of the California State Parks.
Fifty-six quilts reflect a different state park through the eyes of the quilter. The 57th quilt is a replica of the California State Parks 150th Anniversary poster.
The Opening Night reception will begin in the Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park Visitor Center where nine district quilts will be featured along with a number of other artistic quilts. The remaining 47 quilts will be on display throughout all three floors of the Mansion; many relating to the history in each room.
Visitors will be able to chat with docents and some of the quilters to get insight into the creative processes behind the quilts.
Refreshments will be provided by the Bidwell Mansion Association.
The event is $7 per guest. For more information, call the BMSHP Visitor Center at (530) 895-6144.
Again, the quilts will remain on display through November 21st. To view them online visit http://www.150.parks.ca.gov/?PAGE_od=27842.
