TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - The first game of the Chicago-Tampa Bay Stanley Cup final is being played this evening on the Lightning's home-ice. The visiting Blackhawks have held the Cup in the air two of the last five years, and a third title this year would solidify the franchise's case to be considered a dynasty.
Each team required seven games to clinch its conference championship. The Lightning went the distance before eliminating the Rangers, while the Blackhawks needed seven games to oust Anaheim.
The Blackhawks have had great success all season long when scoring early. They are 32-0-0 when leading after two periods while the Lightning are 9-0 in the playoffs when they've scored first in a game.
When it comes to Stanley Cup experience there's no comparison as the core of the Chicago team was involved in the championship runs in 2010 and 2013 while Tampa hasn't been in the final since 2004.
Following this evening's game, the series will resume Saturday in Tampa before a shift to Chicago for Games 3 and 4 next Monday and Wednesday.
Catch Game 1 starting at 5pm on NBC 24.
