OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Oakland is trying to get in on San Francisco's bid to host the 2024 Olympic Games.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports San Francisco's bid to host the Olympics was tweaked Wednesday to have the opening and closing ceremonies and track-and-field events at a planned stadium in Oakland. The Oakland Raiders and city officials have been trying for years to hammer out a new stadium proposal, with funding being a sticking point.
A proposal from the city's bid committee was to have a temporary stadium in Brisbane, south of San Francisco. It would be razed after the games conclude. That could still happen if the Oakland stadium isn't built.
San Francisco is up against Los Angeles, Boston and Washington, D.C. to host the 2024 Games as officials meet in Denver Thursday to decide on the U.S. city.
