A huge fundraiser will be taking place next weekend in Redding to help out a local high school student and his family. 15 year-old Colton Rickard is a freshman at Shasta High School, who was diagnosed with leukemia back in February. He's currently in the process of receiving treatments that will last 3 years at UC Davis Children's Hospital.

To help the family with the cost, a fundraising event is being held at Fitness Express at the Mt. Shasta Mall on April 23. Author and endurance athlete David Clark will be on hand, as he plans to run 100 miles in 21 hours on a treadmill in Colton's honor. There are multiple ways people can help, including sponsoring one of the miles, signing up to do a virtual run with Clark, or purchasing t-shirts and books at Fitness Express.

"He's a great kid and the support from the community, once they learned about this, has been overwhelming and encouraging," said Colton's aunt, Theresa Rickard-Tibbett.
