SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (AP) - Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies have arrested two people after finding a cat bound with electrical tape and kept upside down inside a carrier.

Sheriff's Lt. Brenda Cambra said two deputies checking on a car parked behind a closed business in Santa Clarita late Saturday found narcotics inside. They arrested a couple on suspicion of selling drugs.

Cambra said as the deputies searched the car, they found the cat inside carrier, its paws as well as its front and rear legs bound tightly with tape.

She said the cat appeared to be in distress and was meowing loudly as officers tried to snip the tape.

Cambra said the couple faces additional animal cruelty charges. Their names were not released due to the ongoing investigation.
