Firefighters quickly knocked down a vegetation fire that broke out in South Redding Monday afternoon, but the damage to nearby power lines briefly left 1600 without power.

The fire was reported a little after 4 p.m. in the area of Fig Tree Lane and has burned approximately two acres.

No structures have been damaged, but power lines have been knocked down and Pacific Gas and Electric Crews are on the scene working to de-energize the lines.

PG&E spokesperson Paul Moreno says the fire and subsequent power outage was started when a tree branch fell through a power line.

Power was restored to all but 126 of the 1600 affected customers around 4:45 p.m.
