South Oroville fire briefly threatens homes

A wind-whipped vegetation fire creates a big scare in one south Oroville neighborhood Thursday evening, just east of Las Plumas High School. El Medio fire fighters rushed to the scene at the end of Debby Avenue right around 7:15 p.m. and quickly called for help from Cal-Fire.
It turns out a big rig trailer, parked in a field, caught fire and the flames spread to the dry vegetation. Wind pushed the flames toward nearby homes, prompting some residents to evacuate. A number of backyard fences were scorched but no structures were burned.
Crews finally contained the fire after about an hour with about five acres burned. There is no word yet on what caused the parked trailer to catch fire.
