Soroptimist International of Chico is bring a screening of "The Empowerment Project: Ordinary Women Doing Extraordinary Things" to Chico next week.
The 55 minute film portrays the journey of 5 young female filmmakers driving across America to encourage, empower, and inspire the next generation of strong women to go after their career ambitions.
Driving over 7,000 miles from Los Angeles to New York over the course of 30 days, the documentary spotlights 17 positive and powerful women leaders across a variety of lifestyles and industries.
This film, in collaboration with "Girls On the Run" and the Chico Unified School District, is being presented to girls at Bidwell Junior, Chico Junior and Marsh Junior High Schools on March 9th and 10th.
Local Soroptimist International President Gayle Aylward says,"This is a vital message for adolescent girls to hear. Junior High years are turbulent, challenging times for a girl's self- image and confidence. Our club hopes to make a positive difference in the lives of these girls."
Each girl attending this film assembly will receive a Career Booklet featuring 12 local women in challenging careers ... sharing career highlights and educational suggestions.
A free, public screening of "The Empowerment Project" will be held Tuesday evening, March 10th at 7 pm in the gymnasium at Chico Junior High School.
Parents and grandparents are urged to attend with their daughters and granddaughters, ages 13 - 15 yrs of age.
