LOS ANGELES (AP) - One person has been killed in the crash of a small airplane at an intersection just south of Van Nuys Airport in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles.
Fire Department spokesman Erik Scott says the crash occurred shortly after 1 p.m. Friday and the plane's one occupant died at the scene.
Scott says the plane did not hit any vehicles or structures and did not catch fire.
A KCAL-TV news helicopter view of the scene shows the demolished aircraft against a curb with one wing bent around a traffic signal pole.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the plane was a single-engine Lancair and crashed under unknown circumstances.
