Yuba City Police Officers were called to a home on Nadean Drive Monday evening after a dog dug up what appears to be parts of a human skeleton.
The resident told police his dog had been digging in the same area for a while and pulled up several strange items, including a human skull.
In addition to the human remains, investigators located animal remains and doll fragments.
Experts from the Chico State Human ID lab concluded that the remains may be artifacts, possibly used as part of an Afro-Caribbean religious tradition.
The origin and age of the remains and skull are under investigation by Chico State Officials and the Yuba City Police Department.
