The Shasta County Interagency Narcotics Task Force awarded several non-profit organizations more than $50,000 in grant money Wednesday morning.
A total of seven Shasta County organizations were given $53,500 to help at risk youth stay away from drugs in Shasta County.
The money comes from a percentage of the funds seized by authorities during traffic stops, search warrants and other incidents involving controlled substances, and by state law is placed into a special juvenile account.
The money is awarded to local organizations serving youth in Shasta County, and available to any organization that applies.
This year the money will pay for swim lessons and basketball clinics, while other funds are being given to the Salvation Army, Shasta County Chemical People, the YMCA, and Girls Incorporated of the Northern Sacramento Valley.
