The roar of engines, the smell of rubber, and left turns are coming back to Chico.
For five months the 1/4 mile dirt track has sat in silence. But that's about to change as the 2015 racing season is set to begin.
"It's the best family type of entertainment you can provide anywhere and it's right here in Chico," says Dennis Gage, Silver Dollar Speedway promoter. "You never know what's going to happen, it's just a wonderful experience."
For fans, that experience starts with this weekend's Silver Cup Race of Champions.
"It's Friday night and Saturday night, a two-day show featuring winged 360's, dirt modifieds, and wingless sprints. Plus, the weather is great," says Troy Hennig, Silver Dollar Speedway Announcer.
That's a welcome sight for Brad Bumgarner and Mark Abouzeid, drivers who are eager to put on a show and fulfill their need for speed.
"It's incredible to see the fans, you get dicing with somebody and you're passing back and forth and you start seeing people stand up and cheering, whether they're cheering for you or cheering against you, you're going for it and you want to win and that's what the drive is all about," said Abouzeid.
Bumgarner echoes Abouzeid's sentiments.
"I'm just looking forward to getting going. I can't wait to get behind the seat, I love driving sprint cars, it's what I do, it's what I love and I'm just looking forward to getting out here and ripping," said Bumgarner.
Bumgarner will be able to "rip" several times as thirty events are scheduled this season, which runs through October.
Big events include the return on the World of Outlaws March 28th with the annual running of the Mini-Gold Cup.
Of course, Silver Dollar's staple has always been the Gold Cup Race of Champions, which takes place early September. And this year it's featuring a special surprise.
"We've actually put together eight straight days of racing in September around the Gold Cup. There will be a race at Marysville on Saturday as well as Calistoga, another one at Calistoga on Sunday, Monday at Petaluma, Tuesday back here at Cycleland and the best news about Cycleland is NASCAR superstar Kyle Larson will be there. Kyle is coming out just for that Tuesday night race. He grew up at Cycleland racing cars so that's something we're really excited about," says Gage.
