Sierra Snowpack Far Short of Ideal

Jan 3, 2014 7:21 AM

On the heels of one of the driest years on record, the snow levels in Northern California are dire. Recent statistics released by the California Department of Water Resources shows the snow pack is currently at 11% of the average for early January. If levels were to remain the same through April 1st, the snow pack would only be 4% of the average for that date. A series of wet systems are projected to head through the west coast next Tuesday through Thursday, and hopefully those systems will act to bolster the amount of snow in the higher elevations.
