Shoppers come in the dark for Annual Woof & Poof Sale in Chico

The Chico shoppers 'Right of Passage' drew hundreds to a downtown warehouse Saturday. The annual Woof & Poof sale started at 8am, however people started lining up around 4am. Some traveled from as far away as Modesto and Pleasanton and make it an annual ritual.
The sale, located at Orange and Third Streets, has been going on for at least 15 years. There were thousands of items, including stuffed Santa Clauses to stuffed Halloween witches and baby blankets and pillows.
All the items are made and designed in Chico and are sold nationwide, including some specifically made for Nordstrom's Department Stores.
Woof & Poof employs 28 people and was recently sold after the creator, Jacki Headley, passed away from brain cancer in 2012. Escrow should close for the new owners, Roger and Sabrina Hart, December 31.
Roger Hart, a former loan officer with Butte Community Bank, says they were thrilled to take over the business and keep it in Chico, keeping Headley's legacy alive. Hart says, "Once we close escrow we will be promoting the 'Made in the USA' aspect, since so much, anymore, is made in China. We tell potential buyers the merchandise is made in Chico, California and they're amazed."
If you missed the sale this year, it ended at noon today, it needs to go on your 'must do' list next year. Waiting in line and mingling with the locals is half the fun.
