Shoplifter Stabs Employee at Redding Safeway

A Redding man is behind bars after allegedly stabbing an employee at a Safeway store. It happened just before 7 p.m. last night at the Safeway on East Cypress Avenue. Police say a loss prevention officer was stabbed when he tried to stop a shoplifter from leaving the store. The suspect, Alexander Restuchi, 26, ran from the scene but police were able to identify him through items left at the scene. Officers found Restuchi around 9:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of Bond Street near Hartnell Avenue. Police also located the weapon, a 4 inch folding knife. The loss prevention officer, Jesse Fisher, 53, only suffered minor injuries. Restuchi was booked into Shasta County Jail for robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
