The Butte County Coroner’s Office has released the names of the men involved in a shooting incident on Northwood Drive in Magalia yesterday morning. The victim has been identified as 46-year-old Kirk Bullis and is currently in stable condition at a local hospital. The man deputies found deceased on the residence has been identified at 70-year-old Stephen Olson. Miranda Bowersox, Public Information Officer for the Sheriff’s Department, has confirmed the department now officially considers this case an attempted murder-suicide.

Yesterday morning, sheriff deputies responded to the 1400 block of Northwood Drive to a report of a man being shot. When deputies arrived, they located Bullis across the street who had suffered a gunshot wound. Deputies then heard a gunshot from the residence across the street and quickly established a perimeter. Bullis was transported to a local hospital where his condition had been withheld until this morning.

As deputies eventually closed in on the residence, they found Olson dead in the backyard. Yesterday afternoon, the sheriff’s department stated the incident was still under investigation, but they believed the deceased male was the shooting suspect and indicated they were not pursuing any additional suspects. Bowersox confirmed with Action News Now Olson today Olson was killed by a single self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Responding deputies and neighbors of both men stated the two had a contentious relationship and the dispute between them had been ongoing since at least this summer.
