Authorities have launched an investigation after a 1-year-old girl was found dead in a Red Bluff home Monday morning.

The Tehama County Sheriff's Office responded to a home on Highway 99 West in Red Bluff a little after 8 a.m. Monday after a woman reported that her 14-month-old daughter was missing. Family members had already searched the inside of the home and were in the process of searching the neighborhood.

According to a news release from the sheriff's office, the first officer on scene found the girl wedged between the bed and the wall, underneath some clothing. The girl was dead when found and investigators say it appears as though she had been in the location for a significant amount of time.

Deputies searched the home and two other children living there were taken into protective custody by Child Protective Services.

The investigation is ongoing, detectives will be attending the child's autopsy Tuesday and expect to release more information when the results of that test are available.
