A former correctional officer at the Butte County jail is facing charges after an investigation deemed he had sexual contact with inmates, the sheriff's office confirmed.

Timothy James Hill, 27, was formally charged with sexual activity with an inmate in a detention facility, indecent exposure, and sexual battery on June 25, 2015.

According to the Butte County Sheriff's Office, Hill, who worked as a correctional officer from November 2012 until July 2014, exposed himself to at least one female inmate, inappropriately touched another and encouraged inmates to expose themselves to him.

The allegations surfaced on July 17, 2014 and Hill resigned the same day. The Butte County Sheriff's Office recommended that charges be filed against Hill on July 22, 2014.

The Butte County District Attorney's Office formally filed charges on June 25, 2015. Hill is currently out of custody, but will be in court again July 31 at 8:30 a.m.

In a statement released Tuesday Sheriff Kory Honea said, "Conduct of this nature will not be tolerated, and when allegations of this nature are brought to our attention they will be vigorously investigated, criminal charges will be sought and further disciplinary action will be taken when warranted."
