(UPDATE) 5:01 p.m.- The occupant in the home at the time of the shooting, identified as a juvenile, reportedly told deputies he had been a victim of a road rage incident, and the shooter may have been the other driver involved in the crash.
The juvenile claims the road-rage incident occurred at Nord Avenune and Oak Way in Chico earlier this afternoon. The juvenile told investigators he was involved in an accident with the driver of the Acura but fled the scene out of fear and drove to his home on the 600 block of Balboa Court, according to the sheriff's office.
When the juvenile entered his home he heard a vehicle pull up outside of the house. When the juvenile looked outside he saw the same vehicle involved in the alleged road-rage incident. The juvenile then reportedly saw a man walk up to his car and smash the windshield with some sort of bat-like object. At that point the juvenile hid in the house. As he hid he heard gunshots come in from outside to inside the house.
The juvenile told investigators he didn’t know who fired the shots but was sure it was the same driver involved in the road-rage incident on Nord Avenue. The juvenile didn’t know where the suspect fled or why the road-rage incident had occurred.
Investigators found ballistic evidence in the walls of the home consistent with the juvenile’s statements.
Three shots were fired into a home on the 600 block of Balboa Court in Chico around 3 p.m. this afternoon, and Butte County Sheriff Deputies are still at the scene to investigate why.
According to responding deputies, one occupant was home at the time but no injuries were reported.
Three visible gunshot holes can be seen in one of the windows of the residence.
A vehicle in the driveway was also reportedly vandalized.
We will provide an update when the sheriff’s office releases more information.
