Authorities say a 12-year-old Magalia boy fabricated a story about being abducted to get out of doing his chores.
According to the Butte County Sheriff's Office, the boy reported an attempted kidnapping around 4:45 p.m. Thursday.
When deputies arrived on scene the boy told them he had been kidnapped from his home near Pinehurst Way in Magalia while splitting wood. He claimed to have blacked out and woken up in the woods, only to find himself being held at gunpoint. The boy told deputies he eventually was able to throw a rock at the suspect and escape.
Deputies began looking into the story and told the boy it didn't add up. He eventually told them he had made the entire incident up so he could avoid doing his chores.
Rather than pursue any charges for filing a false report, deputies decided to leave the situation in the hands of the boy's parents.
