A Shasta Lake City man was arrested Thursday for allegedly molesting his 11-year-old step-granddaughter back in December.
Carl Routhier, 71, was left to care for his unidentified 11-year-old step-granddaughter at his Shasta Lake him. During the time he was watching her, he allegedly had her sit on his lap and touched her inappropriately. Officers said the girl told them he grabbed her by the arm and prevented her from leaving for a period of time.
Routhier has previously been convicted of sex crimes in Georgia and was a registered sex offender at the time of the assault. Georgia Police said the manner in which Routhier allegedly assaulted the girl is similar to the way Routhier was convicted of assaulting another 14-year-old in Georgia in 2005.
On Tuesday, Routhier agreed to meet Shasta County detectives and give a statement regarding the incident. Routhier denied the allegegations stating the child was lying as a way to get him in trouble.
Detectives offered to give Routhier a computer voice stress analyzer test to “help refute the charges.” Routhier declined and was subsequently arrested was arrested for lewd and lascivious Acts with a child under 14 and is being held on $100,000.00 bail.
