A Shasta Lake City man was arrested early Thursday morning after he allegedly started six different fires in the middle of a Redding road.

A Redding Police sergeant was patrolling the area of Twin View Boulevard near Constitution Way around 4:00 a.m. Thursday when he spotted the camp fire sized fires burning.

The Redding Fire Department quickly responded and determined the fires had not spread to any vegetation.

A short time later, the sergeant spotted 44-year-old Clint Michael Bell, of Shasta Lake City, walking near the fires.

Bell was detained, and an investigation revealed he had recently purchased a gas can and gasoline nearby.

Bell proceeded to tell police he was a firefighter who specialized in fighting wildland fires and was setting the fires to light his way into the darkness.

Bell was arrested and booked into Shasta County Jail for arson.
