(UPDATE) 2:07 p.m.- The City of Redding has closed the West Central Landfill on Clear Creek Road after law enforcement officers ordered an evacuation while conducting the manhunt.
As of this afternoon, two suspects are in custody, one of which has been taken to Mercy Medical Center after a vehicle pursuit ended in a dramatic crash in the Igo area of Shasta County. Two other suspects fled on foot and law enforcement is actively searching the area for them. The Tehama County Sheriff’s Department stated in a press release this afternoon the suspects are believed to be connected to a homicide reported in Tehama County this morning.
At 8:47 a.m., Tehama County Deputies received a call from an off duty police officer of shots fired in the area of Hwy 36 W near Cannon Road outside Red Bluff. En route to the call, Deputies were notified a man, who has yet to be identified, was suffering from a gunshot wound and was heading as a passenger in a vehicle to St. Elizabeth Hospital. While en route to the hospital, the vehicle was stopped by law enforcement and live saving efforts were initiated by officers. Despite their efforts, the man did not survive his injuries.
CHP assisted with the investigation when they observed a vehicle reportedly seen leaving the scene where the shots were heard. A pursuit ensued and eventually ended when the suspect vehicle crashed on Clear Creek Road in the Igo area of Shasta County. According to our photographer at the scene, one suspect was arrested and another was taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment. His condition remains unknown at this time.
Law enforcement is still searching for two additional suspects who fled the vehicle on foot. The two men are considered armed. Clear Creek Road is closed at Cloverdale Road as a result of law enforcement’s pursuit. The road is also closed at Gas Point Drive on the west side. The search is being conducted in the area of September’s Clover Fire.
