A Shasta County man was arrested for attempted murder Sunday morning in Lakehead after he allegedly tried to shoot a man who had been arguing with his daughter over the past few days.
Shasta County Sheriff's Deputies responded to reports of a subject being shot at near Antlers Road around 8:45 a.m. Sunday. California Highway Patrol officers located James Jones in a nearby campground, and a handgun.
Jones told investigators he tried to make a citizen's arrest on Matthew Easton following an incident that occurred a few days prior. Jones told authorities he fired several warning shots in an effort to get Easton to comply, but witnesses said Jones had aimed the handgun at Easton and fired multiple rounds from a very close distance.
Easton fled the scene, but investigators discovered that he and Jones' daughter had been arguing over the past few days and that is why Jones confronted him.
Easton was located and interviewed and officials say he was uninjured in the shooting.
