Two adorable puppies are safe this evening thanks to the rescue efforts of several Shasta County first responders.

The pups, which look like lab mixes, became stuck in a pipe underneath a Cottonwood driveway Sunday, and their rescue took on a sense of urgency when deputies noticed an eye injury on one of the pups.

According to a post on the Shasta County Sheriff's Office Faceboook page, a sheriff's deputy was able to win the heart of one puppy with a few treats, but the injured pup had no interest in treats or toys.

After two hours, things ended on a high note when a firefighter reluctantly decided to use a higher powered hose to get the pup moving. Fortunately the strategy worked.

The puppy was then treated for his eye injury and is going to be just fine.

Both pups, who appear to be strays, are at the Haven Humane Society and up for adoption.
