Shasta County fires nearing containment

Three fires burning in Shasta County are nearing full containment, Cal Fire officials announced Friday morning.

The Mallard Fire and the Sprig Fire, in Millville are now 95 percent and 90 percent contained respectively. The Mallard Fire started as a house fire around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, and went on to burn 75 acres of vegetation. The Sprig Fire flared up to the east of the Mallard Fire Thursday afternoon, and has burned 90 acres.

The China Fire, which started Wednesday evening, has burned 212 acres near Happy Valley and is 80 percent contained.

All road closures and evacuations were lifted at 6 p.m. Thursday.
