With the deadline to register to vote in the general election looming, election officials in Redding are holding a drive-thru voter registration event Tuesday.

Volunteers operated a drive-thru in downtown Redding Tuesday with the hope of increasing voter turn-out this November, by offering Shasta County residents a quick and easy way to register.

Frank Treadway, the Voter Registration Project Committee Chair, said "The people that have come through this morning, we've actually gone up to their vehicle and registered them while their car is still running. They were very grateful for that, to be able to drive through this parking lot and go to work and go on shopping so it was very convenient for them".

Election officials have another drive-thru scheduled for October 20 on the corner of Court and Placer Streets in downtown Redding.
