Shasta County drug agents raid illegal pot grow

Shasta County law enforcement agents arrested two men and seized nearly 7,000 marijuana plants during a raid Monday evening.

Agents with the Shasta County Sheriff's Office Marijuana Investigative Team, United States Forest Service and California Department of Fish and Wildlife Marijuana Enforcement Team raided an illegal marijuana grow near North Fork of Digger Creek. Agents seized 6,769 marijuana plants and removed 2,500 pounds of trash, including fertilizer, propane tanks, miscellaneous trash and food supplies.

Two Hispanic males, Venustiano Gonzalez-Jauregi, and a 17-year-old juvenile were found at the site and taken into custody.

Agents determined that the growers were using an illegal insecticide known to harm to bears, rabbits, deer, fishers, martins, and other small mammals.

Gonzalez-Jauregi was booked into the Shasta County Jail on multiple health and safety code violations, the 17-year-old juvenile was booked into the Shasta County Juvenile Facility.
