Officials announced Friday that the Superior Court of Shasta County was forced to layoff staff earlier this week.
Starting September 25, there will be 44 fewer superior court jobs. Officials say the layoffs are the only means to balance a reduced budget. The layoffs follow an ongoing deficit of approximately $1.5 million in the 1024/2015 fiscal year.
Late last month Shasta County officials announced the Burney Branch Court will be closing at the end of the month. In addition to the intermountain area, public services in every division of the court in the Redding main courthouse will be negatively impacted.
Since 2008, the judicial branch in California has suffered budget reductions of $1.1. million.
