Shasta Co. probation check leads to alleged meth dealer

A routine probation compliance check Wednesday on a probation suspect netted investigators with the Shasta County Sheriff’s office a sizable amount of drugs, currency, guns and stolen property.

Shasta County Sheriff’s AB109 team, in cooperation with Shasta County Probation Office, conducted a probation search on the home of Matthew Hedges, 31, on Parkway Street in Cottonwood. During the search, investigators found more than 5 pounds of crystal methamphetamine along with material used to sell drugs.

In addition to the drugs, officers found more than $6,000 in cash, a sawed-off shotgun and a pistol with several rounds of ammunition for both guns. The pistol had been reported stolen in Klamath Falls, Oregon in 2011.

Investigators also recovered a stolen pressure washer, chainsaw and two commercial paint sprayers which were linked to thefts and burglaries reported in Redding and Palo Cedro area.

The value of the recovered stolen property is estimated at over $3,000.00.

Hedges was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail on several charges.
