A Shasta County man is behind bars after sheriff's deputies say a child custody exchange turned violent.
Dispatchers at the Sheriff’s office received a call Saturday afternoon from a woman in Castella, stating she had been assaulted and her life was threatened by the father of their 14-month-old child.
Investigators said 40-year-old Shea Montgomery allegedly strangled the woman for an unknown reason, telling her he was going to kill her, their child, and himself.
The woman eventually became unconscious after being strangled where she told deputies she saw Montgomery walking away from the home while holding their child.
Montgomery was shortly located and arrested.
The child was found safe and unharmed. Montgomery was booked into the Shasta County Jail for domestic violence, child abuse, and attempted murder.
