Shasta Co. Major Crimes Unit investigating Shingletown homicide

The Shasta County Major Crimes Unit is investigating a homicide that occurred early Tuesday morning on in Shingletown and have arrested one suspect.

Sheriff's Officials confirmed that Michael Donald Ackley, 55, was arrested Tuesday morning on suspicion of murder.

Investigaotrs say around 2:00 a.m. deputies responded to reports of shots fired on the 28000 block of Pine Hollow Dr.

Ackley had been drinking earlier that night with 47-year-old James Arnel and mother Ida. Arnel allegedly returned to the home to retreive a boot he had forgotten and Ackely mistook the two for burglars and opened fire with an AR-15.

Ackley was hit in the torso and pronounced dead at the scene. His mother suffered laserations to her arm, but was not hit by any shots.
