SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A plan by a San Francisco Bay Area principal to donate her kidney to a former student has been put on hold after the hospital announced it has suspended a donor program.

KTVU reports that on Thursday UCSF Medical Center announced it was voluntarily suspending its living donor program for kidney transplants. The decision follows a death of a kidney donor last month.

Christine Buell, vice principal at Sacred Heart Cathedral in San Francisco, was preparing to her organ to former student, Kelvin Sanders.

Last year, the young Sanders was diagnosed with end stage renal disease, which is why his kidneys failed.
