"Joy and excitement just rushed through me, it's the best feeling in the world scoring that touchdown," said Haddy.

Last Friday night was a night of jubilation for Gridley high quarterback Emery Haddy, his teammates, and the town of Gridley.

"Having all our fans and our team rush the field, it was amazing. We've been through a lot, my senior class, this was their first win," said Haddy.

It couldn't have come at a better time as Gridley knocked off their rival, Live Oak in overtime, 20-14, in the Harvest Bowl.

The win was Gridley's first over Live Oak since 2004, and their first win period, since 2011.

"After the game we stayed on the field and took pictures for like 30 minutes or something, just celebrated and we went over to Round Table and watched Under the Lights, it was crazy," said Haddy.

Haddy finished the night with solid numbers. 113 yards, 1 passing TD, and the game winning score on the ground, but the senior quarterback's success isn't just limited to gridiron, as Emery juggles honors and AP classes, all while holding a 3.8 GPA.

"You our coaches and everyone talk about being a student athlete and student comes first. If you want to play on the field you have to have good grades first so you just have to take care of business in the classroom," said Haddy.

Education and football - two things Haddy takes seriously, and now that the Bulldogs have gotten a taste a victory, they want more.

"You can already tell the difference in our teammates and how this win has gave them so much more confidence in themselves and now they truly believe they can go out and compete with everyone," said Haddy.
