WASHINGTON (AP) -It went into the early morning hours, but the Senate has passed a budget and debt deal, averting a catastrophic default and partial government shutdown.
The Senate voted 64-35 on the two-year budget which eases punishing spending caps by providing $80 billion more for military and domestic programs, paid for with spending cuts and revenue increases touching areas from tax compliance to spectrum auctions.
The package now goes to President Barack Obama, who negotiated the deal.
