The state Senate has approved a bill that could help the Golden State Warriors with their plan to move the team from Oakland to a possible waterfront arena in San Francisco.
AB1273 by Democratic Assemblyman Phil Ting of San Francisco would help the team open an 18,000-seat arena at Piers 30-32 in San Francisco.
The legislation would authorize the State Lands Commission to decide if the project is consistent with public trust laws for development along the shoreline. It would not change the required reviews under the California Environmental Quality Act.
The measure was approved on a 21-6 vote Friday and now returns to the Assembly.
A second pending bill would help Sacramento build a downtown arena for the NBA's Sacramento Kings and other events.
