A second officer with the Yuba City Police Department has been placed on paid administrative leave because of a possible connection with a federal investigation into cocaine trafficking.

On Wednesday, federal prosecutors filed charges against Officer Harminder Phagura and a relative. A criminal complaint accuses both men of conspiring to possess a controlled substance with intent to distribute, and use of a communication facility in narcotics trafficking activity.

A spokesperson with the department said the second officer's involvement, if any, is unclear, and he has not been named as a suspect in the federal investigation.

The name of the second officer has not been released at this time.
