Enloe Medical Center has confirmed this morning that 19-year-old Bryant Mata passed away overnight. Bryant is the second passenger who died as a result of a suspected DUI crash on Bidwell Avenue over the weekend.

18-year-old Diego Arriga-Rodriguez, the driver of the BMW, remains in critical condition as of this morning. Austin Silver, 20, died at the scene Sunday morning.

Mata is now the second Chico State student who died as a result of the crash which occurred just before 12:40 a.m. Sunday morning. Arriga-Rodriguez was driving a BMW with Silver and Mata west on Bidwell Avenue when he drove off the roadway and crashed into the creek, according to CHP. Silver died at the scene of the crash while Arriga-Rodriguez and Mata were transported to Enloe Medical Center. Arriga-Rodriguez was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol but was released to the hospital because of the extent of his injuries.

Mata was a freshman at Chico State from the San Diego area and enrolled at the University last fall along with Arriga-Rodriguez, a freshman from Morgan Hill. Silver, also a Chico State student, was a sophomore from the Simi Valley area.
