The search for a Shasta County man who crashed his car of the roadway and into the Trinity River Saturday afternoon is still underway. The CHP says 58-year old Patrcick Hume of Shasta Lake City was driving on highway 299 just west of Junction City when he lost control of his 1974 MGB.
Hume's car went down an embankment about 150 feet and into the Trinity River. A nearby rafting tour witnessed the accident, and one of the guides dove into the water to help. He was able to free Hume from the car by cutting his seat belt, but the strong current swept hume down river.
The CHP has been combing the river by plane and helicopter, and divers are also searching the river for Hume's body, but so far he has not been located.
Crews are wrapping up the search each night just after four and start up again around 9:00 AM. The Trinity County Sheriff's Department is also assisting in the search.
