The Butte County bomb squad evacuated homes on Mulberry Street in Chico Wednesday morning after a body was found inside a home on the 1800 block and officials learned there may be explosive devices inside.

A little before 10 a.m. a person called police to say their roommate was dead of a possible drug overdose, and that there was dynamite inside the home. The bomb squad was called in, but had to wait until the body was removed.

Butte County Sheriff's Deputies, along with Chico police officers went house to house ordering residents to evacuate their homes, and a road closure was put in place from 18th-20th Streets.

Once the body was removed, the bomb squad moved in and declared the home free of any explosive devices. All of the road closures were lifted and residents were allowed to return home around 1 p.m.
