Scene clear after AT&T building basement fire reported

May 16, 2014 2:28 PM

Just before noon Friday the Redding Fire Department was dispatched to the AT&T building in downtown Redding.

At this time there are six engines on the scene and firefighters are investigating the cause.

AT&T officials say they believe a fire started in the basement of the building when a transformer blew. Because the building is used for communications purposes there is no sprinkler system in place to put out a fire.

Power to the building was shutoff. At this time firefighters are investigating what caused the fire and assessing the damages.
