The Boys and Girls Clubs of the North Valley are warning Chico residents to be on the lookout for a group of scammers going door-to-door soliciting donations while posing as club representatives.
Boys and Girls club workers in Chico say they have received several calls in the past week from residents who say a group of young people are going door to door-to-door selling candy bars as representatives of the Boys and Girls Clubs of North Valley. The group tells residents they are trying to raise money for youth basketball uniforms.
Boys and Girls club officials say they never solicit monetary donations by knocking on doors.
Officials say this is not the first time a scam like this has hit the North State, and the scam artists tend to come out during the holiday season.
Anyone that is interested in donating money to the Boys and Girls Clubs of the North Valley can do so online here, or by calling (530) 899-0335.
UPDATE: After this story was posted, Action News Now learned that the scammers are not only pretending to be members of the Boys & Girls Club, but are also pretending to be with the YMCA and "Second Chance for Youth"
