SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - A Southern California woman has been convicted of drowning her 2-month-old baby girl in a bathtub two years ago.

The Orange County Register reports Lucero Carrera was found guilty Monday of first-degree murder.

Starting Tuesday, jurors will determine whether Carrera was legally sane when she drowned her daughter.

Carrera was diagnosed with a bipolar disorder more than a decade ago, and officials said she cycled between manic and depressive states that lasted for months. She had been hospitalized several times and attempted suicide.

Prosecutors said Carrera had ingested a large quantity of pills on June 29, 2012, when she drowned her daughter, Kimberly Gutierrez, inside a trailer in Santa Ana.
