WASHINGTON (AP) - Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign says it has raised more than $33 million during the past three months to help his effort to win the Democratic nomination.
Sanders raised $73 million in 2015 for his primary campaign. His haul was just short of rival Hillary Clinton's fundraising for the fourth quarter. Clinton reported raising $37 million since the beginning of October. Clinton raised $112 million during 2015 for the primary.
Sanders is releasing his fundraising totals on Saturday. His campaign says it has $28.4 million in the bank heading into the first contests in Iowa and New Hampshire in February.
Sanders has received more than 2.5 million donations, surpassing a record set by President Barack Obama in 2011 when the incumbent president received 2.2 million donations.
