SAN DIEGO (AP) - A San Diego County doctor has been sentenced to house arrest after pleading guilty to charges of sexually assaulting women patients - some while they were unconscious.

The Los Angeles Times reported Friday that the judge sentenced 68-year-old Jeffrey Abrams to 25 years in prison, but then stayed the sentence and instead imposed the house arrest because of Abrams' medical condition.

A probation report says Abrams requires continuous care due to complications following surgery to remove a cancerous kidney.

Abrams pleaded guilty to charges including sexual penetration of an unconscious person, sexual battery, and one count of possession of child pornography.

Authorities say Abrams' cellphone contained nude and partially nude photos of women and at least one girl that he apparently examined while volunteering at a free clinic in El Cajon.
