SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - A plan approved by trustees will make ethnic studies a high school graduation requirement in the Sacramento City Unified School District by 2020.

The Sacramento Bee reports the board has approved ethnic studies as an elective course at a pilot group of school starting in fall 2016 and expansion to all 13 high schools in 2019, then becoming a requirement a year later.
